Small Scabious (Scabiosa columbaria) (03/07/2022) Fulking Hill, Fulking, W Sussex. Note the five petals - Field Scabious has but four. It also tends to be a paler shade of mauve/pink than Field Scabious. Note this was once under the Dipsacaceae but that family no longer exists. Genetic testing found that Scabious (and Teasel) are closely allied to Honeysuckles (although they look nothing like them!).
Small Scabious (Scabiosa columbaria) (03/07/2022) Fulking Hill, Fulking, W Sussex. Told apart from other scabious by these long, narrow phyllaries that are in one row. Field Scabious has really wide ones and two rows of them.
